No more paper menus in your restaurant. No more PDF menus on your website.
More sustainable. More accessible.
That’s just a fraction of what transitioning to a digital restaurant menu can offer.
A more accessible approach to restaurant menus
94% of consumers say they prefer a digitally optimised menu over a PDF because it’s more user-friendly and accessible. Users can have issues viewing a PDF on mobile devices, especially reading the small font sizes which can include important allergen information.
While it’s a legal requirement to disclose allergen information on menus, even when displayed correctly, it can be easy to miss the information under the time pressure of choosing a meal and the busy nature of most menus. Not to mention the menu online might not be consistent with printed menus at the restaurant.
With a digital menu system, the menu updates everywhere at the same time and allows customers to filter dishes and exclude allergens they are allergic to. This way, they only see safe-to-eat dishes, helping to improve diners’ trust and confidence in a restaurant.
The connection between stock systems and menus also allows for clearer nutritional and dietary information to be displayed such as calories, protein, halal, vegan etc. This means that if ingredients are tweaked or substituted in a dish, the calorie information and allergen information will update automatically every day across all menus.
It’s time to take food allergens seriously
On a list of life’s priorities, digital restaurant menus mightn’t seem to rate very highly – until you learn that food allergies in the UK result in 10 people dying every year when ordering from a restaurant or takeaway.
While experts claim that these deaths are avoidable, we can’t simply expect restaurants to train their staff to know how to treat allergic reactions. And although more customers are now carrying EpiPens, there will always be scenarios where they forget them or can’t access them in the moment.
The only realistic solution is one that ensures the odds of an allergic reaction are as low as possible to begin with. That means mitigating human error, and accessibility issues, by moving forward with a digital menu solution.
Speak to the experts
As hospitality marketing experts, we at Harrison Carloss were tasked with modernising the existing restaurant websites for the luxury pub group, Parogon. The Group needed a better, more efficient and scalable solution to managing the menu content across the individual restaurant websites.
As their digital partner, we had already designed, built and manage their portfolio of websites.
At the time each of their venues had its own menu, managed and maintained by a member of staff, which took a significant amount of time and was inevitably susceptible to human error.

What our dynamic menu system did was to make the dining experience easier, safer and more enjoyable for anyone with allergies.
Using a tablet-based menu system, we help to simplify dining for guests with allergies and make it easier for staff to make amends daily.
This centralised approach also eliminates the need for printed menus and improves service efficiency.
The innovative system uses Tevalis technology to pull in calorie information, dietary preferences, and allergens for every dish, helping ensure legal compliance and allowing customers to eat out with confidence.
