Last night, the Midlands’ creative scene exploded with celebration and culture as the inaugural We Are Creative Awards took centre stage at Birmingham’s Eastside Rooms. Amidst the dazzling display of talent, one name shone brightly: Harrison Carloss, who walked away with the coveted Best Branding or Identity Design of the Year award!

The We Are Creative Awards, a brand new initiative, proved to be a resounding success, capturing the vibrant energy and innovation that defines the region’s creative industries and the people working within them.

For Harrison Carloss, this award is a testament to their team’s hard work, dedication, and creative vision. It solidifies their position as a leading force in the Midlands’ branding and design landscape.

The project behind the award

Harrison Carloss’s triumph in the Best Branding or Identity Design category was a highlight of the evening (for us, at least). The award recognised the agency’s exceptional ability to craft a compelling and impactful rebrand for West Midlands Safari Park.

The rebranding of West Midlands Safari Park was a significant undertaking, breathing new life into a cherished institution with over 50 years of heritage behind it. Harrison Carloss successfully captured the park’s adventurous spirit with a focus on creating wild memories.

  • The rebranding was based on comprehensive workshops, focus groups and research with staff and customers. Coupled with our market research, we produced four data-driven creative concepts.
  • We strengthened the brand’s emotional connection with customers and built a brand around unique animal experiences using our ‘Create Wild Memories’ concept.
  • We advised a subtle name change from West Midland Safari & Leisure Park to West Midlands Safari Park to make the brand more memorable and discoverable.
  • We developed a brand identity tailored towards families with young children (<7yo), without being childish and alienating adult visitors.
  • We provided WMSP with an icon to be their version of Mickey Mouse, a new logo, strapline, and full brand guidelines for their internal team to roll out seamlessly, gaining huge PR coverage and increasing interest both online and through the doors.

A night to remember

Entertainment at We Are Creative Awards

From the electrifying opening by Hit the Dhol to the powerful spoken word performance by Sipho Eric Ndlovu, the night was a testament to the transformative power of creativity.

Hosted by the charismatic PJ Ellis, the event was filled with anticipation and excitement. A particularly moving moment came with the keynote speech from journalist and TV presenter Marverine Cole, who not only emphasised the importance of recognising creative talent but also shared her personal journey, resonating deeply with the audience on International Women’s Day.

The We Are Creative Awards has undoubtedly set a high bar for celebrating the creative talent within the Midlands. Congratulations to all the finalists and winners, including our team, who worked on the West Midlands Safari Park rebrand and awards submission.

We’re now hungrier than ever for our next award win.
