Work experience by Emily Higgins

Before my work experience, I felt all kinds of emotions, I was firstly excited to experience what work is like and especially what marketing is like. Secondly, I was nervous to be in a new environment with completely new people and to put myself outside of my comfort zone. I came into this week with a positive attitude to learn more about a possible career choice for me.

I started the week off by sitting in a meeting as the team went over their plans, it was interesting as I have never sat in a meeting before. Quickly I got to learn how much went into marketing as most people don’t realise how many parts there is to this job. On my second day I started to look at some design and I really enjoyed being creative and designing some social media graphics. I also sat in a meeting about SEO and PPC and it was interesting to understand how a meeting with a client is like. In the second part of my week, I learnt more about the meanings of SEO and PPC (understood how they help a business grow). I also learnt about social media scheduling and tried to schedule some posts myself. I have seen how businesses grow using a good marketing agency and have realised how much work goes into this job.

During this week I have gained confidence, communication skills and i have learnt a wide range of knowledge about marketing. I have experienced work in an office and a real workplace for the first time and I think this work experience will be extremely helpful towards any future career choices I make.
